Match Recap:

FARGO, N.D. (2/18/07)-- For the second straight week, Concordia dropped a 9-0 decision to one of the top teams in the region and the conference. On Sunday the Cobbers fell 9-0 to Carleton in a match played at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.

The early-season schedule makers have been a little harsh on the Cobbers as they fall to 1-4 in dual meets this year with all four losses coming at the hands of NCAA Division II or Division III regionally-ranked squads.

Carleton seized control of the match by winning all three doubles matches. The Knights were able to squeeze out wins at the No.1 and No.2 doubles spot and cruised to a win at No.3 doubles. In the top doubles match, regionally-ranked Julian Tokarev and Brendan Cooper from Carleton outlasted the Cobbers' Jordy Kamerling and Paul Tuchscherer 8-6. Concordia's No.2 doubles partnership of William Wischer and Ryan Smith then fell 8-5 to Colin Russell and Peter Varnum.

In singles play, the top match of the afternoon came at the No.1 singles spot where Winston Park rallied to pull out a super-set tiebreaker over Concordia's Kamerling. Kamerling won the first set 6-1 but then Park came back to post a 6-1 in the second set and a 10-7 decision in the tiebreaker.

The only other drame in singles play came in the second match where Wischer was forced to retire in the second set after suffering an ankle injury.

The four remaining singles matches were all decided in straight sets.

Concordia will now have almost a month off for spring break before resuming play on Mar. 10 when they square off against St. Mary's in St. Cloud at noon.
