Match Recap:

FARGO, N.D. (2/10/07)-- Concordia ran into the immoveable object in MIAC men's tennis as they lost 9-0 to perennial league champion Gustavus on Saturday at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.

The Cobbers hung tough with the fourth-ranked Gusties throughout the doubles matches and competed all the way until the end in the singles matches.

The closest match of the night came at No.1 singles where Cobber senior Jordy Kamerling came back from a set down to force a super-set tiebreaker. Kamerling lost the first set 6-4 against Andy Bryan, who is currently ranked fourth in the Central Region, but then stormed back to claim the second set 6-3. In the tiebreaker, Bryan was able to pull through with the 10-4 decision.

Kamerling and teammate Paul Tuchscherer lost at No.1 doubles 8-5 to the team of Bryan and Mike Burdakin. That was the closest doubles match of the contest as Gustavus claimed the other two matches by identical 8-2 margins.

Tuchscherer lost for the first time all season in singles. He fell 6-4, 6-2 to Aaron Zenner in the No.3 singles spot.

Cobber freshman Kirby Johnson played one of the best matches of his early career as he battled at the No.5 singles spot but ended up falling to Ashok Jethwa 6-4,   6-2.

Concordia will finish off their pre-spring break portion of their schedule when they host Carleton on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
