(3/2408)-- Concordia junior pitcher Scott Schumacher was named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week it was announced by the MIAC office on Monday. Schumacher went 2-0 during Concordia's spring trip to Arizona during the past week and helped the Cobbers post a 6-4 record on their spring trip. It is the first time in his career that he has earned the conference weekly award. He is the first Cobber hurler to win the award since April 17, 2007 when Blake Trenbeath captured the honor. Schumacher's two wins propelled Concordia to their first winning spring trip since the 2003 season. For the week, he started two games and pitched 11 innings in recording his two wins. He struck out 10 and only allowed six hits. Opponents hit a mere .158 against the right-hander and he only allowed two extra-base hits, both doubles. He was part of a Cobber staff that helped Concordia win four straight games to finish off the southwestern trip. CC only allowed six earned runs in those last four games. Schumacher started his 2008 season by pitching six innings against Knox (Ill.) in the team's 7-4 win. He allowed only two earned runs, five hits and struck out seven in the first appearance. He backed that game up by pitching five scoreless innings against D'Youville (N.Y.) on Saturday. In the game against the Spartans, Schumacher allowed only one hit and struck out three.
