Kyle Johnson signed a pro contract with the F-M RedHawks one day after finishing his collegiate career at Concordia.
Johnson Signs With RedHawks!

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/5/09)-- Concordia senior catcher Kyle Johnson (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) signed a pro contract with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the Northern League it was announced by the club on Wednesday.

Johnson is coming off a season in which he set a school record for home runs in a season and tied an MIAC record for homers in a conference season. Johnson had 14 overall HR's and clubbed 10 long balls against league opponents.

The RedHawks are the premiere team in the Northern League. They also signed former three-time MIAC MVP, and current World Champion Philadelphia Philly, Chris Coste to a minor league contract back in 1996. Several other former Cobber players have gone on to sign with the RedHawks. The RedHawks won the Northern League Championship in 2006 and have made the playoffs the past six seasons. Following their 1998 championship they were named the Independent Team for the 1990's.

Johnson finished the season with a .404 average and drove in a team-high 36 runs. He had a .947 slugging percentage and collected a career-high 89 total bases. Johnson led the MIAC in slugging percentage in conference games with an incredible 1.036 mark. He also led the conference in total bases (58), walks (16) and was tied for the MIAC lead in RBI with 22. Johnson was also second in on-base percentage (.570) and third in runs scored (22).

Johnson was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Midwest Region Second Team last year, and should become a three-time MIAC All-Conference player once the league postseason awards are announced next week.

Johnson will begin working out with the club on Wednesday and will be with the team when they start a four-game preseason stretch against teams from the American Association.
