(4/07/08)-- Concordia junior catcher Kyle Johnson and sophomore pitcher Adam Johnson swept the MIAC weekly baseball awards it was announced by the MIAC office on Monday. Kyle Johnson was named the MIAC Player of the Week and Adam Johnson earned MIAC Pitcher of the Week honors. The pair helped the Cobbers sweep Carleton on Saturday and pick up their seventh straight win. The sweep over the Knights marked the first time since 2003 that Concordia has started the MIAC season 2-0. It is the first time in both their careers that they have earned MIAC Player of the Week honors. The pair gives the Cobbers three Player of the Week recipients this season. Scott Schumacher was named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 24. Kyle Johnson went 6-for-7 and drove in six runs in the Cobbers' sweep over Carleton on Saturday. In the first game during Concordia's 5-3 win, he went 2-for-3 and drove in three of the five runs. After striking out in his first at-bat, he proceeded to drive in three runs in his next three at-bats including the game-winning RBI in the top of the seventh inning. In the second game he was a perfect 4-for-4 and cracked two doubles in the Cobbers' 12-2 victory. His 6-for-7 afternoon upped his team-leading batting average to .455. He also extended his hitting streak to seven games and has had multiple-hit games in the past four contests. After starting the season 0-for-8 in the first three games, he has gone 20-for-36 and is hitting .556 during that stretch. In the past 10 games he has driven in 17 runs, scored 14 runs and collected seven doubles. Adam Johnson pitched six scoreless innings and earned the win in the Cobbers' victory in game 1 over the Knights. He gave up only two hits and struck out five in picking up his second straight win. In the first five innings of his outing he only allowed only one runner to reach second base and at one point retired nine straight hitters. Johnson then came out of the game at the end of the sixth inning with Concordia clinging to a 2-0 lead. With his scoreless six innings, Johnson lowered his season ERA to a team-leading 2.18. He has only allowed two runs in his last 20 innings of work.
