MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/27/09)-- Concordia senior catcher Kyle Johnson (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) was named the MIAC Player of the Week it was announced by the MIAC league office on Monday. Johnson hit five home runs in the team's six games, including a three-run walkoff laser against St. Mary's, and had an unprecedented 1.50 slugging percentage. Johnson earns Player of the Week honors for the first time this season and the second time in his career for the award. He is the third Cobber player to win Player/Pitcher of the Week this season. Johnson hit .563 for the week and had an on-base percentage of .992. He also had 11 RBI, scored eight runs and collected seven walks. Johnson had at least one hit in five of the six games on the week. His at-bats and number of hits were down due to the opposing pitcher's giving Johnson anything to hit. In four of the six games Johnson had multiple RBI and in game 1 against St. Mary's he drove in a season-high five runs on a pair of long balls. His game-winning shot in the bottom of the seventh carried over the 25-foot high batter's eye in dead center field. For the season, Johnson currently leads the MIAC home runs, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. He is also in the top five in batting average, runs scored, RBI, total bases and walks.
