MOORHEAD, Minn. (8/16/06)--You can officially add Tom Glavine's name to the list of major league pitchers that former Concordia baseball All-American and three-time MIAC MVP Chris Coste has hit a home run off of.

Coste hit a two-run homer in the second inning to help Philadelphia shutout the New York Mets 3-0 and remain in contention in the Natioanal League wild card race. Coste also had a double and a single in the game and was only a triple away from hitting for the cycle.

Coste is currently hitting .359 and leads the Phillies in hitting.

Coste was also the subject of an in-depth article by the New York Times on Wednesday. Current Cobber head coach Bucky Burgau was quoted in the article that details Coste's 12-year journey through the minor leagues.

Coste started his major league stint by going hitless in his first 12 at bats. Since that time he has upped his team-leading average to .341 and has clouted four home runs.

Coste has secured an everyday spot on the Phillies roster as the backup catcher after longtime backup Sal Fasano was traded to the New York Yankees on July 26.

Coste is only the second baseball player in the history of Concordia to reach the major leagues. He joined Arlo Brunsberg who played briefly for the Detroit Tigers in the late 1960's.
