A Pair of All-Region Honorees!

Complete List Of ABCA All-Midwest Region (word)

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/27/09)-- Concordia placed a pair of seniors on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Midwest Region Team it was announced on Wednesday. Catcher Kyle Johnson (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) was named to the All-Midwest Region First team while pitcher/first baseman Scott Schumacher (Thompson, N.D.) earned All-Region Third Team honors. Johnson was also named the All-Midwest Region Position Player of the Year.

It is the second straight season the Johnson earns All-Region honors. Last year he was named to the All-Region Second Team. It is the first time that Schumacher has earned the All-Region award.

It marks the 11th straight season that Concordia has had at least one player earn All-Region honors. Johnson and Schumacher are the 17th and 18th players to be named to the All-Midwest Region Team during that 11-year stretch.

Johnson, who was named the MIAC Player of the Year, set a school record for home runs in a season by hitting 14 long balls on the year. He also set the program record for slugging percentage in a single season. Johnson finished with an unbelievable .947 slugging percentage mark in the 33 games he played this season.

Johnson's .947 slugging percentage placed him third in all of NCAA Division III this season. His 14 home runs were 11th in the nation. He was seventh in the nation in home runs per game (0.42) and 27th in on-base percentage (.540).

Johnson finished the season with a .404 average and drove in a team-high 36 runs. He also collected a career-high 89 total bases.

Schumacher had his best season as a Cobber in 2009. He led the team in hitting in .423 average. That mark is the sixth highest average in school history since 1990. It is also 22 percentage points better than his previous best season. The .423 average marks the second straight season that he has hit over .400 for the year.  Schumacher also finished the season by successfully hitting in 17 consecutive games. That streak is the third longest in school history.
