Concordia catcher Kyle Johnson became the fifth Cobber player in program history to earn ABCA All-American honors.
All-American!

Complete List Of ABCA All-Americans (pdf)

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/27/09)-- Concordia senior catcher Kyle Johnson (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) finished off the 2009 awards season by earning All-American honors as selected by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

Johnson becomes the fifth player in program history to earn All-American status. He is the first Cobber player to be named to the ABCA All-American Team since 2003 when Derek Dormanen was named to the All-American Third Team.

Johnson, who was named to the ABCA All-American Third Team, set a school record for home runs in a season by hitting 14 long balls on the year. He also set the program record for slugging percentage in a single season. Johnson finished with an unbelievable .947 slugging percentage mark in the 33 games he played this season.

The All-American honor caps an incredible string of postseason honors for Johnson. Earlier in the month he was named the MIAC Player of the Year as well as the ABCA All-Midwest Region Position Player of the Year. He was also placed on the MIAC All-Conference Team for the third straight season.

Johnson's .947 slugging percentage placed him third in all of NCAA Division III this season. His 14 home runs were 11th in the nation. He was seventh in the nation in home runs per game (0.42) and 27th in on-base percentage (.540).

Johnson finished the season with a .404 average and drove in a team-high 36 runs. He also collected a career-high 89 total bases.
