NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/14/10)-- In a season full of dramatic comebacks, Concordia saved their most dramatic, electric comeback for the first game of the MIAC playoffs against St. John's. The Cobbers were down to their final out, and trailed the Johnnies 3-1, before coming up with a pair of hits to steal a 4-3 win.

Concordia (24-15) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning but then watched St. John's score three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to grab a 3-1 lead. The teams were unable to score until the bottom of the ninth when CC plated three runs on the final two plays of the game.

The inning started with a walk to Adam Johnson and then Tony Emmerich was hit by a pitch. The next two CC batters struck out and a wild pitch sent the runners to second and third base. Senior Jake Krause tied the game when he lined a single down the left field line. Johnson and Emmerich scored easily on the play as they were off and running on the crack of the bat. Krause then stole second base as he slid under the sweep tag at the bag. Dan Wackler then delivered the bench-clearing hit. Wackler laced a curve ball up the middle and Krause was able to slide past the tag to score the winning run.

St. John's (21-17) outhit the Cobbers 10-6 in the game but all the Johnnie hits were singles. Concordia third baseman Michael Carlson had the only extra-base hit of the game as he doubled in the eighth inning. Wackler was the only CC player with more than one hit as he went 2-for-4 and had the biggest RBI of his career.

The Johnnies were led by Jimmy Loonan who was 3-for-4 and drove in a run. Leadoff hitter Kyle Henkemeyer was 2-for-4.

Cobber reliever Zach Frappier earned the win as he pitched the final three innings and did not allow a run. He came on in the seventh inning and pitched out of a jam in the ninth. Chris Fellows started the game for CC and allowed three earned runs.
