MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (3/5/10)-- Concordia started the 2010 season in style as they posted a pair of wins over Elmhurst (Ill.) in the Metrodome late Friday night. The Cobbers scored five runs with two outs on their way to a 6-3 win in the opener and then rode the arms of Eddie Massee and Adam Johnson in the nightcap to win 2-0.

The two opening-day wins marks the first time since the 2006 season that Concordia has won their first two games of the season.

Chris Fellows was the pitching star in the first game as he scattered five hits and only allowed three innings in his complete-game victory. Last year Fellows went 1-2 on the season and had a 4.91 ERA. On Friday he struck out six batters and cruised through the latter innings of play.

The Cobber offense did most of their damage with two outs in the inning. Scoring five of their six runs after the first two outs, CC managed a total of eight hits in the game. Nick Lewis went 3-for-4 in the game and had two RBI. He also scored two runs and had a triple. Dan Wackler also came through with one of the clutch two-out hits. He singled and drove in two runs two pick up his two RBI in the game.

In the series finale, Concordia scored all their runs in the first inning as Jake Krause got on board and then scored the game's first run on a single to the outfield by Mike Carlson. The Elmhurst center fielder misplayed the ball and allowed Carlson to scoot all the way around the bases to score the second run on the play.

Massee would make those two runs hold up as he started the game and pitched the first six innings to earn the victory. Massee only allowed four hits and struck out a pair of batters. Johnson then came on in the seventh to pick up the save. It took Johnson awhile to find his rhythm in his first outing but after giving up a single, he settled down and got the remaining outs to seal the doubleheader sweep.

Concordia will stay in Minneapolis and play Edgewood (Wis.) at the Metrodome on Saturday, Mar. 6 at 10 p.m.
