Gameday Recap
BISMARCK, N.D. (3/26/08)--Concordia claimed its fifth straight victory by edging the University of Mary 6-5 on Wednesday in Bismarck. The two teams then traded runs in the fourth frame before Concordia opened up the margin to 6-2 in the top of the seventh inning with a pair of runs.
Mary had their best inning of the game in the eighth when they scored three runs. Two of the runs came on a home run by Tyler Liffrig. For Liffrig it was his second long ball of the game. Concordia junior pitcher Nick Petro then entered the game and struck out four of the remaining eight batters he faced. For his efforts he earned his first collegiate save.
Concordia will now circle the playing field in a holding pattern until the snow clears up. The Cobbers were supposed to play a doubleheader on Thursday, Mar. 27 at Valley City State but that was postponed until a later date. They are also supposed to host Gustavus on Saturday, Mar. 29 in the MIAC but that doubleheader is in jeopardy of being cancelled as well.
