Assistant Volleyball Coach Rachael Schmieg
Rachael Schmieg is in her first year as an assistant with the Cobber women's volleyball team.
She graduated in May 2003 from Valley City State University at North Dakota State University. with a degree in elementary education. She also received minors in early childhood education and coaching.
She played for the NDSU volleyball team and was the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American Second Team in her senior season. She was also named to the All-Region First Team during her final year. For her career she was a three-time All North Central Conference performer, and earned Academic All-Conference honors twice. For her career, she finished second on NDSU's all-time list in digs and tenth in kills.
Schmieg is a native of Chaska, Minn., and made three state appearances with the Chaska High School volleyball team where the team finished first, second and third. She also played on the school's basketball team, finishing second in the state tournament in her senior year.
Last fall, Schmieg was an assistant coach at Fargo North High School. She has also coached in their Junior Olympic program for the past four years. Besides her high school coaching background, she has also coached at the NDSU volleyball camps the past five summers.
