Looking Back at the Seventies

The decade of the seventies had to be the most successful in the history of Concordia sports to date.
The football team led the way with a national championship and four MIAC conference titles.  Other teams claiming the conference championships were hockey, tennis, and golf.

By winning the NAIA District 13 meet, the golf team qualified for the national tournament and the hockey team placed second in the NAIA national championships.

Barry Bennett was a three-time national heavyweight wrestling champion.  Other athletes in track, wrestling, and cross-country earned All-American status.

Two coaching changes took place with John Eidsness taking over the reins in basketball replacing Sonny Gulsvig who resigned the post, and Don “Bucky” Burgau succeeding Al Rice as baseball coach.
