The Running Cobbers survived a scare at Jamestown Tuesday night to pull out a 87-83 overtime win. Daimen Crump led the Cobbers with 23 points. Kenny Nelson added 17 and Greg Dean put in 13. The Cobbers are now coming off a 67-66 win over St. John's Saturday in which Daimen Crump scored 29 points and Kenny Nelson grabbed 11 boards.
The 6-2 Cobbers face another stiff test tonight in what is shaping up as a very balanced MIAC race. Carleton is just 2-3 in the league, 4-5 overall, but one of those MIAC losses was in overtime to 5-0 Gustavus and another was Saturday night to 7-2 Augsburg. The Knights beat 7-1 St. Olaf last Jan. 3 and beat St. John's in December.
Like St. John's, Cobber grad Guy Kalland's Knights present a formidable challenge inside. Two outstanding 6-7 freshmen posts, Josh Wilhelm and Luke Schmidt, lead the team. Junior guard Chad Boger gives the Knights a strong perimeter game.
Following Monday's game the Cobbers travel to Augsburg Wednesday and then host Macalester Saturday at 3:00.
