Donald Bucky Burgau, head coach of Concordia's baseball team, guided the Cobbers to their second baseball MIAC championship in Concordia's history, the first coming in 1962. The Cobbers finished with an MIAC record of 15-5 and an overall standing of 23-10-1. Under pressure throughout the season, the team tied with St. Olaf for first-place honors by defeating the Oles 5-1 in the final game.
Burgau, completing his seventh year as coach, was named MIAC Coach of the Year and NCAA Division II Midwest Region Coach of the Year.
Players receiving all-conference honors were May graduates Ray Brekke,
Timothy Anderson and Kent Kuball; Greg Toivonen '86 and Joel Smith '87.
Anderson also received the Max Morlock Most Valuable Player Award, which
goes to one player in the MIAC, and Kuball and Smith were named all-district
players.
