Cobbers
vs. Maroons Game Recap
Puddles and Maroons Spell
Doom for Cobbers.
CHICAGO, Ill.-- Concordia
couldn't overcome an overly saturated field and the nationally ranked University
of Chicago Maroons and lost 3-1. The Cobbers conceded two goals in the
first half and fell for the first time in five games. Concordia is now
11-4-0 on the season, while Chicago, who was ranked 11th in the latest
NSCAA national poll, improves to 11-1-2.
The game was played on a
field that had standing water in places due to a driving rainstorm on Friday.
The Maroons scored two goals
in less than seven minutes in the first half, and then let their suffocating
defense do the rest of the work. Concordia's top goal-scoring Morgan
Bain (So., Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS), was held without a shot
on goal for the first time all season. It was only the fourth game all
year that she did not score a goal.
After surrendering a third
goal early in the second half, Concordia finally got on the scoreboard
at the 83:40 mark. Rachel Lewis (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) scored her
seventh goal of the year breaking Chicago's streak of four games without
allowing a goal.
Ashley Liegakos (Fr.,
Maple Grove, Minn.) made nine saves for the Cobbers. Maroons goalie Andrea
Przybysz had to make only one shot in picking up the win. Chicago outshot
Concordia 16-11 and held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Cobbers will complete
their Illinois road trip when they play at Elmhurst (Ill.) on Sunday, October
24 at noon.
