Football Gameday Recap OCTOBER 9, 2004 vs. Hamline University - 1:00PM Homecoming 2004
2003 Game Recap - 2003 Box Score
Schumacher Slings, Passanante
Picks as Cobbers Blank Hamline 42-0.
The victory keeps the Cobbers unbeaten on the year, pushing their MIAC record to 4-0 and their overall mark to 5-0. Hamline slides to 1-3 in the conference and 2-3 overall. Schumacher finished the game by going 20-for-29 and throwing for 290 yards. Passanante caught 12 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Shawn Reile (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.) turned in another big-play game for the Cobbers. The senior wideout caught five passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns. It marks the second straight week that Passanante and Reile have caught two touchdowns and Schumacher has thrown for five touchdowns. On the ground, Schumacher led the way with 13 carries for 56 yards. Travis Christensen (Sr., Battle Lake, Minn.) finished 44 yards on 11 touches. Overall, the Concordia racked up 591 yards of total offense. That is the most for the Cobbers since last year when they played the Pipers and totaled 598 yards. Concordia finished the day with 229 yards in rushing and 362 passing yards. The Concordia defense returned to their stingy ways by only allowing 14 rushing yards and 142 yards of total offense. The Cobbers also came away with three interceptions, as they put pressure on the Hamline quarterbacks all game long. A trio of seniors was the catalyst for the Cobber defensive unit. Jordan Talge (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.) came away with two interceptions and had five tackles. Josh Dietz (Sr., Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) and Doug Runke (Sr., Willmar, Minn.) continue to be an immovable object in the middle. Dietz finished with 11 tackles and Runke added 10. Hamline quarterback Andy Gagnon started strong but faded in the second half when Concordia's defensive front four were able to wear down the Piper's offensive line. Gagnon completed 15-of-25 passes for 126 yards. Chris Cushenberry collected a team-high 11 tackles for the Hamline defense. The highlight for the Pipers came in the second quarter when Nick Keane became the first player all season long to pick off a Schumacher pass. Concordia will step up in
competition in the next two weeks when they face St. John's and Bethel.
The Cobbers play at defending National Champion St. John's on Saturday,
October 16 at 1:00pm, before returning home to host 2003 NCAA playoff participant
Bethel on Saturday, October 23 at 1:00pm.
