Cobbers Come From Behind to Beat Rockford 2-1.
Concordia scored two goals in the final 10 minutes to overcome a one-goal deficit and beat Rockford College 2-1.
The Cobbers, playing their second game in two days in 90 degree weather, continually put pressure on the Regents in the first half but were unable to break through on the scoreboard. Rockford finally broke the scoreless deadlock with just under 15 minutes to go in the game when forward marcus Brown broke free and scored on a breakaway.
Concordia started the late-game rally when Jerry Nathan (Fargo, N. Dak.) took a pass from Jamie Hager (Jr., Fargo, N. Dak.) and hammered home his third goal of the season from just outside of the box. First year forward Nick Peterson (Fargo, N.Dak.) put the Cobbers ahead when he finished off a chance from Nwachukwu Chukwualoa (So., Lagos, Nigeria) at 83:50.
For the game, Concordia held a decisive 20-8 margin in shots.
With the win, Concordia improves to 2-1-1 on the season. Nathan and senior defender Cyle Cavett (Sr., Fargo, N.Dak.) were named to the all-tournament team. It is the second time in three years that Nathan has been awarded the honor at the Luther Classic.
Concordia returns to action next weekend when they travel to Bismarck, N.Dak. to take on Concordia (NE) on saturday at noon and the University of Mary on Sunday at 11:00am.
