MOORHEAD-- Concordia College Moorhead Athletic Director Dr. Armin Pipho announced today that Stacey Holm has been named the new women's softball coach. She takes over for Steve Baumgartner who has been the head coach since 1987. Holm was Baumgartner's assistant coach last season.
Baumgartner, who is the head men's hockey coach at Concordia, will continue to be involved in the softball program as he will take over the assistant coaching duties.
Holm, originally from Cokato, Minnesota, is a 1996 Concordia graduate. She joined the Cobber coaching staff in 2002 as an assistant women's softball coach.
"I am very excited to get a chance to continue the success that the
team has enjoyed the past four years."
Holm went on to add, "I have always been close to the Concordia community
- since graduating in 1996 - and have always wanted to give back to the
college that helped me so much."
Formerly Stacey Hoien, Holm was one of the top players in Cobber softball history. She earned MIAC All-Conference honors in 1994 and 1996. A career .392 hitter, she currently holds school records in single season batting average (.471), hits (48), doubles (13) and RBI's (31).
After graduating from Concordia, Stacey went on to teach in the Physical Education and Health Department at Franklin Middle School in Thief River Falls from 1997-99. She was also the high school softball coach during those two years. After her stint at Franklin Middle School, she worked as a personal trainer for Lifetime Fitness in Indianapolis, Ind., before serving as a substitute teacher in Mankato, Minn. for the 2000-01 school year.
Pipho explained the hiring by stating, "Stacey's shown a great deal of commitment and energy towards the softball program, both as a player and as an assistant coach. She will be able to focus more energy into recruiting and pre-season workouts. I am very pleased with the outcome of this coaching adjustment."
Stacey currently lives in Fargo with her husband Jeremy (Concordia -
'97) and son Kai.
