Season Outlook and Notes:

The 2001 Concordia College men's soccer will be bolstered by the fact that 9 of the 11 starters from a year ago are all returning. Last year the Cobbers started quickly, bolting to a 3-0 start in the MIAC only to falter in their next four games and end the season with a 5-4-1 conference mark. Concordia will be hoping that a year of "seasoning" will help push the team towards the top of the MIAC at the end of the season and not at the beginning.

The Concordia offense is a classic tale of "good news, bad news". The good news is that all five of the top scorers from 2000 are back, but the bad news is that Cobber offense finished eighth in the conference in goals scored last year. Finding a way to break down the opposing team's defense will be the key to Concordia's success this year. Leading the way on offense will be 2000 All-MIAC performer Chance Buzzell. Buzzell will be teamed with sophomore Jerry Nathan up front. Nathan led the team in scoring as a frehman last season. Senior Gennard Lombardozzi will be looking to carry on his late season success from 2000. In the last games of last year Lombardozzi scored two goals and assisted on two others.

Defensively the Cobbers will have a corps of players back from last season that limited opponents to only 22 goals in 18 games. Sophomore goalkeeper Kris Overby was named to the All-MIAC Honorable mention team last year and will return to anchor the defense. Junior Cyle Cavett returns in the central part of the defense as well as wing backs Scott Noland and Dan Ravenhorst.
