Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I can't
make it to registration. Can I register over the phone or on the web?
A: No. You must be present to register. We would like to do it electronically
or by telephone, but the program does not support this type of technology
nor do we have staff to administer it.
While this might inconvenience some,
we ask for patience so we can continue to offer this service to the area
community.
Q: Why can Concordia College faculty and staff sign up early?
A: Since the college contributes to the cost of the program, we feel that
it is an employee benefit that we can provide our employees. They pay the
same as everyone, but are allowed to sign-up early.
Q:
Are previous year's participants given priority?
A: No. Everyone is given the same opportunity to sign up. We want to provide
the program to everyone we can in the greater FM area.
Q: Can I have my friend register my children?
A: Yes you can, but your friend will need to sign the form agreeing to the refund policy.
Q:
My child has special needs. Who should I contact to discuss what accomodations can be made?
A:Call Julie Lucier at 218-299-4468.
Q: Who are the instructors?
A: The instructors are college age students that have Water Safety
Instruction certification. Some have had experience-some have not, all
are committed to water safety and to the Concordia Summer Swim Program.
Q: What is the cost of lessons?
A: $35 for Parent & Child, Beginner, Level 1 and 2; ($30 for nine-day sessions), $50 for levels 3-6( $45 for nine-day sessions)
Q:
What if I cannot afford to pay for lessons?
A: If you live in Moorhead, contact the Moorhead Healthy Community Initiative to see if you qualify for one of their scholarships.
Q: What level should I sign my child for?
A: If you child has taken lessons at Concordia in the past 3 years, we have that information. You can ask at registration or call the registration office at 218-299-4468.
If your child has never taken lessons or has taken lessons through a different program, please call the registration office to determine the appropriate level.
Q: Can
I sign my child up for multiple classes at one time?
A: No. We don't encourage that. We don't allow refunds so you will want
to make sure they pass the class they are in before you sign them up for
the next class. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. We would prefer that you sign
up only once and make sure your child passes.
Q: My child is 2, can I start him/her in lessons?
A: According to American Red Cross standards, your child must be at least
3 years of age to start in the beginner class and 4 for level 1. If your
child is younger than this, you may enroll them in the parent and child
class. This class does require a parent to participate in the water with
the child.

Q: What is the student-teacher ratio?
A: The ratio is generally 10:1 for Parent & Child class, 4:1 for Beginners,
6:1 for level 1-3, and 10:2 for levels 4-6.
