Water Safety Instructor
Job Description
As an instructor in our program, you will be expected to teach swimming lessons according to the American Red Cross aquatics guidelines. An understanding of this program and its levels and strict adherence to all guidelines of this program are essential for our program to run smoothly and consistently.
Your duties as an instructor include:
- Preparing for the classes you are assigned to teach before the session begins.
- Teaching the classes you are assigned to the best of your ability.
- Interacting and communicating with the students and their parents as necessary throughout the session.
- Completing a testing sheet for each student, with comments and suggestions.
- Completing American Red Cross forms for each class you instruct within one week of the end of the session.
- Answering any questions the public may have about our program.
- Helping other instructors as necessary and respecting each other’s teaching methods.
- Reporting any problems to the Aquatic Director as soon as possible.
- Following the unit plans for each level in your instruction.
- Utilizing instruction techniques as directed by the Aquatic Director.
Your benefits as an instructor include:
- Starting wage of $8.00/hour with a $.25 increase each year.
- A swimsuit to wear as your uniform.
- A staff t-shirt to wear when on duty.
- One paid office hour each day in the office to complete Red Cross forms and testing sheets. (Only full-time instructors are eligible for this benefit.)
