General Athletics
- The Concordia Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) helped raise over $550 for the Toys for Teens campaign. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee, made up of representatives from all the Cobber athletic teams, supports student-athletes by providing the communication of ideas and concerns between student-athletes and the MIAC within a structure that will promote active involvement. MIAC SAAC is also committed to engaging in campus and community service projects and to serving as positive role models for their peers and younger student-athletes.
Women's Soccer
- Concordia junior Sam Johnson (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) was named to the NSCAA All-American Third Team. She becomes the first player in the history of the program to earn All-American honors. Johnson, who was also named an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American, helped the Cobbers win the MIAC regular season championship and advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. She finished the year with 22 goals and three assists for 47 points, the second most in school history. Details...
- Cobber head coach Dan Weiler was named the NSCAA North Region Coach of the Year. It is the first time in his career. The award comes after Weiler was named the MIAC Coach of the Year for the third time in his career. Weiler guided the Cobbers to a perfect 16-0-1 in the regular season and then helped Concordia advance to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament and along the way won a national tournament game for the first time in program history. Four Cobber players also received All-Region awards. Sam Johnson and Erika Swenson (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) were named to the All-Region First Team while freshman goalie Ali Nelson (Maple Grove, Minn.) was placed on the All-Region Second Team and Susan Obermiller (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) earned Third Team honors. Men's Soccer
- Concordia senior goalie Mads Schmidt (Rodding, Denmark) earned NSCAA All-Region honors. Rodding, who was named to the All-Region Second Team, becomes the first All-Region player for the Cobbers since 1998. He set a school record for shutouts and posted the second best goals against average in program history. Schmidt finished the season by recording eight consecutive shutouts and had a total of 10 for the year. He also had a career-best 0.77 GAA for the season. Details...
Men's Basketball (5-3/2-2 MIAC - beat Hamline 74-61)
- Cobber junior Karl Olson (Buffalo, Minn.) has led the team in scoring in all three home games this season. The Cobbers are unbeaten in all three games and are currently 5-3 overall. In the three home games, Olson is averaging 17.0 points per game and is shooting 70.0% from the field and 80.0% from 3-point range. In the team’s five road games he is only averaging 7.2 points per game and is shooting 38.4% from the floor and 46.1% from behind the arc.
- Olson is currently second in the MIAC in 3-point field goal percentage (60.9%) and is fourth in free throw percentage (89.3%). In his first two seasons in maroon and gold, he averaged 28.4% from behind the arc and 74.6% from the free throw line.
Women's Basketball (4-3/3-1 MIAC - beat Hamline 67-58)
- Concordia junior women’s basketball player Brittany Jossart (Bismarck, N.D.) had a career game in the Cobbers' win over Hamline on Saturday. Jossart came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points and grab a game-high 10 rebounds. Both totals were career highs for Jossart and it marked her first career double-double.
- The Cobbers have now won three of their last four games and will have a three-week break for the Christmas holiday before returning to action on Saturday, Jan. 2 at Bethel at 4 p.m. CC is 3-1 in conference play and in a tie for third place in the MIAC standings.
Men's Hockey (3-8-2/2-2-2 MIAC - beat Bethel 4-1/lost to Bethel 2-1 OT)
- Did Not Compete - the Cobbers will return to action on Friday, Jan. 8 when they host No.5-ranked St. Norbert at 4 p.m.
Women's Hockey (5-6-0/2-4-0 MIAC - lost at St. Mary's 2-0 & 4-3)
- Concordia lost a pair of games to St. Mary's over the weekend despite outshooting the Cardinals in both games. The Cobbers lost the first game 2-0 and had a 29-18 edge in shots on goal. In the second game CC outshot SMU 31-23 but lost 4-3.
Cobber sophomore forward Katelyn Dold (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) added to her point total in Concordia's series with St. Mary's. Dold now has a team-leading 13 points on the year and is currently tied for the MIAC lead in points in overall games. Her eight assists is also tops in the conference.
W. Swimming & Diving (lost at Northern State 158-104)
- Concordia junior Katie Coleman (Marshall, Minn.) swam a 19:32.78 in the 1650-yard freestyle at the Northern State dual meet and won the event by over one minute. It marked the third straight meet that Coleman has won a freestyle event. She also placed second in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:21.94.
- The other event winner for the Cobbers against the Wolves was Stacie Fossum (Minnetonka, Minn.). Fossum captured the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:42.47. She has also won events in successive weeks as last weekend she won the 1650-yard freestyle against Augsburg and UM-Morris.
Wrestling (6-0 - Competed at the St. Cloud State Husky Open)
National Ranking - 6th in the latest Brute/Adidas National Poll
- Concordia moved up to sixth place in the latest Brute/Adidas National Poll. It is the highest ranking ever for the Cobbers and marks the highest ranking for any Concordia team since the 1988 women's basketball team won the NCAA Championship.
- Concordia took only 13 wrestlers to the St. Cloud State Husky Open on Saturday and came away with three top 5 finishers and 17 total victories. The Cobbers were led by sophomore Mike Holman (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) who went 3-1 on the day and finished in third place at 133. Holman started the day by scoring an 8-1 decision over Boyd Suparat of No.2-ranked Augsburg. Holman then fell in the semifinal match before rebounding to score a pair of wins in the wrestlebacks to come away with third place. He posted a pin fall at only :31 seconds over Austen Cole of Southwest Minnesota State and then put up a tight 4-3 decision over Matt Nyvold in the third-place match.
- The Cobbers will now compete in a pair of prestigious dual meets wrapped around the Christmas holiday. Concordia will travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to compete in the Vegas Duals on Sunday, Dec. 20. They will then participate in the National Duals Meet on Jan. 9-10 in Cedar Rapids. Iowa. Last year the Cobbers finished fifth at the National Duals - a competition that brings together the top 16 teams in the nation.
