11/12/99 The Concordian: Larson's leadership earns recognition by Emily Rankin, The Concordian 11/2/99 Concordia head coach Garrick Larson named MIAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year | Garrick Larson has been Head Men's Track Coach at Concordia College since September of 1993. In his first four years as men's Track coach Garrick coached 5 All-Americans and 9 National Qualifiers, including the 1995 Indoor Shot Put National Champion, the 1995 Outdoor Discus National Champion, and the 4th Place 1995 Indoor 4 x 400 Meter Relay. 1997 was Garrick's first season as the Men's Cross Country coach. Larson has a diverse background within track and field. With the exception of the 3000 Meter Steeplechase and the Hammer, Garrick has competed in every event in track and field. As a student-athlete at St. Olaf College he competed in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Javelin, and Decathlon earning 20 All-Conference Honors, 3 Conference Titles, and 2 trips to the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships. Larson still holds the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Record in the Javelin. After completing a Biology degree at St. Olaf College in 1991, Garrick went on to graduate school at the University of Minnesota, specializing in Kinesiology. He is a Licensed Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and Certified Level I and Level II USA Track and Field Coach. Currently, In addition to his coaching duties, Larson works as an Instructor in the Department of Physical Education and Health. |
