2008-09 April 27: Baseball - Kyle Johnson Concordia senior catcher Kyle Johnson (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) was named the MIAC Player of the Week it was announced by the MIAC league office on Monday. Johnson hit five home runs in the team's six games, including a three-run walkoff laser against St. Mary's, and had an unprecedented 1.50 slugging percentage. April 13: Baseball - Adam Johnson Concordia junior pitcher Adam Johnson (Pelican Rapids, Minn.) was named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week it was announced by the MIAC league office on Monday. Johnson threw a three-hit shutout at Gustavus and helped the Cobbers post a sweep over the Gusties for the first time since the 2004 season. March 23: Baseball - Scott Schumacher Concordia senior pitcher Scott Schumacher (Thompson, N.D.) was named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week. Schumacher threw a complete-game one-hitter against SUNY-New Paltz on Thursday, Mar. 19. In the seven innings Schumacher struck out five and did not allow an extra-base hit in the Cobbers' 9-1 win over the Hawks. It is the first time in his career that he has pitched a complete-game one-hitter. February 23: Men's Basketball - John Fraase Concordia standout sophomore John Fraase (Bismarck, N.D./Century HS) was named the MIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. It is the first time in his career that Fraase has won the conference weekly honor. Fraase had a record-setting week in helping Concordia go 2-0 in the final week of the season and giving the Cobbers a three-game winning streak to end the year. February 23: W. Basketball - Jenna Freudenberg Almost a month after winning her first MIAC Player of the Week award, Cobber senior Jenna Freudenberg (Parkers Prairie, Minn.) earned the conference weekly award for the second time as she was named the MIAC Co-Player of the Week. Freudenberg won her first MIAC Player of the Week award on Jan. 26 and joins a short list of Concordia women's basketball players that have won the award twice in one season. February 2: Women's Hockey - Becca Kent Concordia freshman forward Becca Kent (Princeton, Minn./Elk River HS) was named the MIAC Player of the Week it was announced on Monday. Kent had three goals and three assists in the Cobbers' two-game sweep over tAugsburg. Her six-point outburst helped Concordia move into fourth place in the league standings. February 2: M. Track & Field - Paul Westmark Concordia senior Paul Westmark (Appleton, Wis.) was named the MIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week it was announced by the MIAC office on Monday. Westmark won the Cobber Pentathlon and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Meet. February 2: W. Track & Field - Leah Kay Concordia junior Leah Kay (Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) was named the MIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week it was announced on Monday. Kay won the Cobber Pentathlon on Friday and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Meet. January 26: W. Basketball - Jenna Freudenberg Concordia senior point guard Jenna Freudenberg (Parkers Prairie, Minn.) was named the MIAC Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday. Freudenberg averaged 15.7 points and 6.0 assists and shot 93.3% from the free throw line in Concordia's three big wins last week as the team went 3-0. October 27: Football - Carl Hauser Concordia junior kicker Carl Hauser (Fergus Falls, Minn.) was named the MIAC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday. It is the first time that Hauser has earned the weekly Player of the Week honor. Hauser kicked the game-winning field goal with :12 to play against Hamline to give the Cobbers an 18-17 victory and push Concordia into first place in the MIAC. October 20: Football - Tom Flynn Concordia senior defensive back Tom Flynn (Shelby, Mont.) was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Flynn was the leader of the Cobber defense that held Augsburg to only 18 points and 275 yards of total offense on Saturday. It is the fewest points scored and least amount of offensive yards gained by the Auggies all season long. It is also the fewest offensive yards gained by the Auggies since the middle of the 2006 season. October 14: Men's Soccer - Justin Foss Concordia senior forward Justin Foss (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) was named the MIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week. Foss scored three goals last week and helped the Cobbers to a 1-1 record in conference play. Foss had a goal in CC's 3-2 overtime loss at Macalester on Tuesday and came back to score two goals, including the game winner, against Hamline on Saturday in Concordia's 3-0 win over the Pipers. October 13: Volleyball - Jenna Green Concordia freshman Jenna Green was named the MIAC Co-Hitter of the Week. Green helped the Cobbers win four straight matches at the Border Battle Tournament over the weekend. Green had a team-high 46 kills in the four matches. She hit .243 and had eight total blocks. For her efforts she was named to the All-Tournament Team. Green had at least seven kills in all four matches and had a tournament high 16 kills against Coe on Saturday. The 16 kills tie a career high for Green. October 7: Volleyball - Anna Tinkham Concordia senior defensive standout Anna Tinkham was named the MIAC Setter/Libero of the Week. She had a pair of 30-dig performances to help the Cobbers to 2-0 record in conference play. October 7: Men's X-Country - Tom Sederquist Concordia sophomore Tom Sederquist was named the MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week. He becomes the first Cobber men's cross country runner in the history of the program to win the award. Sederquist earned the weekly honor for his performance at the Jimmie Invitational on Friday. Sederquist ran a 26:08 over the eight-kilometer course and won the event by 15 seconds over quality NAIA competition. October 7: Women's X-Country - Hailey Brenden Concordia sophomore Hailey Brenden was named the MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week. Brenden earned Athlete of the Week honors for her performance at the Jimmie Invitational on Friday. She ran a 19:14.00 in the five-kilometer event and finished in second place. It is the fourth time in the past five meets that Brenden has posted a top four individual finish. It is also the second time in the past three meets she has recorded a runner-up finish. September 29: Football - Andrew Larson Concordia junior safety Andrew Larson was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Larson led the Cobber defense as they held defending MIAC champion Bethel to only 179 yards of total offense on Saturday in Concordia's 24-7 win over the Royals. Larson had a team-high eight total tackles and team highs in solo tackles (6) and assisted tackles (4) and made a key interception in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Cobbers. September 24: Women's Soccer - Sam Johnson Concordia sophomore forward Sam Johnson was named the MIAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for her four-goal performance last week. Johnson scored all four goals in the Cobbers' two critical wins last week. She scored a pair of goals in the team's 2-0 win at regional foe St. Scholastica on Tuesday and then repeated the feat on Saturday in Concordia's 2-0 win over Carleton. Johnson now has a team-high seven goals on the year and is second in the MIAC in scoring. September 15: Volleyball - Anna Tinkham Concordia senior defensive standout Anna Tinkham was named the MIAC Setter/Libero of the Week. Tinkham helped the Cobbers go 4-0 at the Colorado College Tournament last weekend. In 19 sets over the past week, Tinkham recorded 91 digs (4.8 per set), 10 assists, 6 aces, and 1 kill. She is also the Concordia team leader in passing (2.7 on a 3.0 scale). Tinkham's energy and intensity is considered to be a big part of the #14 ranked Cobber's success so far this season.
