Top Five in the Region!

MOORHEAD, Minn. (09/04/07)-- The Concordia women's soccer team received its highest regional ranking in program history on Tuesday as they were placed in the No.5 slot in the latest NSCAA Central Region poll. Last year the Cobbers climbed as high as No.7 in the weekly rankings.

The rankings come after a successful opening weekend for the Cobbers. The team beat UW-Stout 3-0 on Saturday and then capped the weekend by trouncing Luther (Iowa) 6-0. For the two games, Concordia scored nine goals, allowed none and outshot their opponents by a combined total of 46-2.

Concordia had nine different players factor on the scoresheet in both games and were led by freshman midfielder Susan Obermiller (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) who had three goals and two assists for eight points on the weekend.

The Cobbers will host UW-Eau Claire on Friday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. in a clash of top five regionally ranked teams. The Bluegolds are currently ranked second in the region after beating MIAC opponents Macalester (3-1) and Augsburg (3-0) last week. The game is also a rematch of last season's first-round NCAA playoff game. A game which UW-Eau Claire was able to edge the Cobbers 2-0.
