St. Mary's Game Stats - Action Picture Gallery

MOORHEAD, Minn.-- One team entered Saturday's game talking about not getting respect, while the other team entered by proving their due respect on the field. After 90 minutes of action, the scoreboard read Walkers 2, Talkers 0.

Concordia used another quick start to dispatch upstart St. Mary's 2-0 and push their record-setting winning streak to eight games. The Cobbers also remain perfect in conference play, upping their record to 4-0. Concordia is now 8-1 overall. St. Mary's loses for the second time in the last three games and is now 1-2 on the season against teams with winning records. The Cardinals are now 2-2 in league play and 9-2 overall.

Concordia has now outscored its opponents 28-6 in the last eight games and has scored at least two goals in a game in eight straight games. St. Mary's was shutout for the second time in the last three games and has now scored more than one goal in five of their first 11 games.

The Cardinals came into the game ranked 10th in the latest NSCAA Central Region Poll. After jumping over the Cobbers in the regional rankings in a week where Concordia won both of their games, St. Mary's could not answer the bell after Amy Ravenhorst headed home a goal at the 1:21 mark.

It was the third straight game that Ravenhorst has given the Cobbers a one-goal lead less than 10 minutes into the game. Kelly Ping was credited with an assist and now has nine assists in nine games for Concordia.

The Cardinals, shocked after giving up only their fifth goal of the season, responded by attacking the Cobber defense in the next 15 minutes. The best chance for St. Mary's on the day came off of an indirect free kick less than 10 yards from the Cobber net. The Cardinals were awarded the kick after Concordia goalkeeper Britt Reiersgord intentionally handled a ball after receiving a pass from one of her defenders.

The ensuing free kick was knocked into the middle of the Concordia wall and was cleared away from danger.

After 45 minutes, Concordia held a 1-0 lead and held a 9-4 advantage in shots.

The second half played out in the same fashion as the first, with Concordia finding chances off the run of play and St. Mary's creating opportunities from set pieces.

Morgan Bain added an insurance goal for Concordia at 73:03 after she finished off a pass from Suzy Grabko. For Bain it was her 8th goal of the season and her 42nd of her career. She now has 96 career points and needs only four more to become the third player in Concordia women's soccer history to eclipse the 100-point barrier.

After the second goal, the only outcome in jeopardy was whether Reiersgord would hold on for her third straight shutout.

Reiersgord kept the Cardinals off the board by controlling the penalty box. She routinely came out to stop chances before they had the chance to materialize. She finished the game with three saves and picked up her eighth win of the season. She has now recorded five shutouts on the year and has not given up a goal in the past 337:13.

St. Mary's goalie Jennifer Johnson, one of the top keepers in the league, made six saves in the losing effort. It is the first time all season that she has given up more than one goal in a game.

The Cobbers outshot the Cardinals 12-6 in the game, and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

In a game that featured physical play from both teams, Concordia was whistled for 17 fouls, while St. Mary's recorded 14.

Concordia's next game is at Carleton on Wednesday, October 5 at 4:00. The Cobbers will return home to host Bethel on Saturday, October 8 at 3:00pm.
