Video of Cobbers' 1st Goal (Quicktime Movie)

Moorhead, Minn.-- On Saturday against St. Olaf Concordia left little doubt as to whether or not they could extend their winning streak and tie a program for most consecutive victories.

The Cobbers came out and scored just 3:29 after the start, and then proceeded to fashion a convincing 3-0 win over the Oles. The victory pushes Concordia's winning streak to six games which equals the record held by the 1999 squad.

The Cobbers also kept their clean slate in conference play as they improve to 3-0-0. They are now 6-1-0 overall. St. Olaf loses for the sixth straight time and remains winless in three attempts in conference play. The Oles are 1-6-1 overall.

The Concordia attack hit the ground running as wing midfielder Amy Ravenhorst was able to find space behind the back of the St. Olaf defense. She took a through ball from Darcy Swagger and sent a shot to the far side of the net that eluded Ole goalie Emily Rolfsmeyer.

Staked to an early one-goal lead, Concordia was able to settle into their offensive rhythm and control the entire first half of play. The Cobbers tacked on a second goal at the 20:20 mark when Morgan Bain finished off a passing sequence from Ravenhorst and Kelly Ping. For Bain it was her sixth goal of the year and 4oth of her career.

Bain also added two assists in the game and now has 91 points in just over two years for Concordia.

In the first half alone, Concordia outshot St. Olaf 15-2.

The Oles responded in the first 15 minutes of the second half and had a couple of excellent scoring chances. Concordia goalie Britt Reiersgord was able to make a couple of key saves and was also helped out by the crossbar on one occasion.

Concordia withstood the early Ole onslaught and returned to putting pressure on the St. Olaf defense midway through the final period. Suzy Grabko's third goal of the season at 66:13 gave the Cobbers a comfortable 3-0 lead and put the game out of reach for the Oles.

Reiersgord completed her second shutout in three games by making four saves.

Concordia outshot St. Olaf 23-8 for the game and held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks. Rolfsmeyer came up with eight saves for St. Olaf, as the Cobbers held a 11-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Concordia will look to set the school record for consecutive wins when they play at Hamline on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 4:00pm. The Cobbers return home on Saturday, Oct.1 at noon when they host St. Mary's.
