Moorhead, Minn.-- When you are scoring goals at the rate Concordia senior forward Kelly Ping is, the net seems to be as big as the ocean and the opposing team's goaltender as small as a grain of sand on the beach.

Ping used her torrid scoring pace to help regionally-ranked Concordia cruise past non-conference foe Jamestown 4-1. Ping recorded her second hat trick of the season and moved her team-leading goal total to eight and her point total to 22. She had 15 points and five goals in all of last season.

The Cobbers have now won five straight games since dropping the season-opener, and have outscored their opponents 20-5 during that stretch. Concordia improves to 5-1 on the season, while Jamestown falls to 5-4-1.

The game started out on a different track for the Cobbers as they tried to gain quality scoring chances without the services of 2004 MIAC MVP Morgan Bain, who was given the game off to rest up for conference play.

Concordia controlled the possession and tempo from the first whistle but were unable to finish off any of their chances.

The outcome turned even darker than the overcast sky when Jamestown scored on its first threat of the game at 22:47. Melissa Larsen's header was the first shot on goal for the Jimmies and served as a wake-up call for the Concordia offense.

Serving in corner kick after corner kick in the first 45 minutes, the Cobbers finally broke onto the scoreboard at the 41:52 mark when Ping recorded the first of her three goals in the game.

In the opening half, the Cobbers took 11 corner kicks and put up 12 shots.

Concordia went ahead of the Jimmies less than seven minutes into the final period. Suzy Grabko deftly touched in a cross from Ping and gave the Cobbers a 2-1 lead at 51:36.

Ping upped the margin to 3-1 when she scored at 61:33 and then closed out her hat trick by netting a goal at 71:54. Rachel Lewis asisted on both of Ping's goals in the second half and finishesd with three assists in the game.

The Cobbers finished the game by outshooting the Jimmies 20-9 and held a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Concordia goalkeeper Britt Reiersgord made six saves to earn her fifth win of the season. Jamestown goalie Diana Rachul came up with seven saves in the losing effort.

Concordia returns to MIAC action when they host St. Olaf on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1:30pm. The Cobbers and Oles played a memorable game in last year's MIAC semifinals, a game that the Cobbers won in a shootout.
