Moorhead, Minn.-- Concordia senior forward Kelly Ping wasted little time in relieving the early-season scoring drought for Concordia, as she scored three straight times in the first 10 minutes of the game and helped the Cobbers roll over Elmhurst (Ill.) 5-0.

It is the most goals in a game for the Cobbers since they beat Hamline 5-0 on October 27, 2004. Concordia scored four goals in the first 12 minutes of the game, marking only the second time in program history the team has scored four goals in the first 15 minutes of the game.

Ping notched her first goal of the game, and the first for the Cobbers in 2005, just 32 seconds into contest. It is the second fastest goal to start a game in Cobber history (:19 vs. NDSU – 1995). She then gave Concordia a two-goal margin at the 7:26 mark when she took a feed from Rachel Lewis and slotted the ball past stunned Bluejay goalie Amy LeFurgy. Ping completed her natural hat trick when she blocked a clearing attempt by LeFurgy and collected the ball behind the back of the Elmhurst defense and calmy slid the ball into the net. The goal came at 9:24 and silenced the Bluejays and the entire crowd as they had barely settled into their seats.

Morgan Bain completed the first half scoring at the 12:53 mark when she finished off a passing sequence from Ping and midfielder Amy Ravenhorst. For Bain, the 2004 MIAC MVP, it was her first goal of the season.

Concordia finished the first half by outshooting Elmhurst 14-3 and forcing LeFurgy to make four saves.

The second half was more of the same for Concordia as they continually found open space behind the back of the Bluejay wing defenders. Bain put Concordia on cruise control when she scored at 54:31. The five-goal margin allowed both teams to experiment with different lineups and try and find new combinations of attack.

For the game, Concordia outshot Elmhurst 27-4 and held a 15-1 advantage in shots on goal. Ping recorded a game-high six shots, while Bain had five and Ravenhorst picked up four.

Concordia goalkeeper Britt Reiersgord made one save to pick up her first collegiate win and shutout. Shaking off a tough opener, Reiersgord came out to control the box and cut down any would-be scoring chances for the Bluejays.

The Cobbers will turn around and host Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, September 10 at 2:30pm at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.
