Chapman Game Stats - Now Online!

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- "All the leaves were brown and the sky was grey" in Moorhead, but in California the sky was golden and the Concordia women's soccer team rediscovered the magic they had built through the first 11 games of the season.

The Cobbers overcame a one-goal deficit in the final 15 minutes of play against Chapman and came away with a 2-1 win over the Panthers in Anaheim, Calif. It is the first time all season that Concordia has come from behind to claim a victory.

The win caps a two-game sweep for Concordia on their mid-semester break trip. It is the first time that the Cobbers have ever swept a pair of games playing against teams from California. The win also ups the Cobbers' record to 12-3-0 on the season and puts them in position to break the program record for most wins in a season. Last year Concordia won 13 games, and with two wins in their final two conference games, the Cobbers could eclipse that mark.

The loss spoils "Senior Day" for Chapman as they fall for the fourth straight game and drop to 6-10-2 on the year.

After a scoreless first half in which Concordia outshot the Panthers 7-2, Chapman got on the scoreboard first with a goal at the 58:23 mark.

Down a goal and facing the task of having to come from behind for the win, Concordia dug deep and found the strength to overcome the odds against Chapman.

Kelly Ping tied the game with a tidy shot from outside the box that found the upper left corner of the net. The goal at 75:20 was Ping's 11th of the season and tied her with Morgan Bain for the team lead in points with 33.

The teams were unable to break the 1-1 deadlock until Rachel Lewis tapped in a loose ball off of a corner kick at 83:20.

Concordia freshman keeper Britt Reiersgord then slammed the door shut on the Panthers in the six minutes to give Concordia the win.

In the game, Reirsgord stopped four shots as Concordia held a decisive 19-7 edge in total shots and an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal. Chapman played a pair of goalies. Starting keeper Madison Coffin nailed down four saves in a grave first half, and Emily Clark made five saves in the final 45 minutes but was handed the loss after allowing both goals.

Concordia will finish off the regular season with a pair of MIAC games. The Cobbers will play at St. Catherine on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 3:30pm. Concordia will then host St. Ben's in a key conference match-up on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1:00pm. The Cobbers need one win in their final two games to clinch their third consecutive MIAC playoff berth.
