MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/06/06)-- The Concordia women's soccer team will play  UW-Eau Clairein the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.

The Cobbers are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history after winning both the MIAC regular season and conference tournament championships. Concordia enters the national playoffs with a 12-5-3 overall record after posting an 8-1-2 mark in conference play to win their first-ever MIAC Championship.

The Blugolds are making their second consecutive appearance in the appearance in the NCAA Tournament. It is also the second in program history that they will be playing in the NCAA postseason. Like the Cobbers, Eau Claire won both the WIAC regular season and playoff championships.

Concordia and UW-Eau Claire played earlier in the season with the Blugolds winning 1-0 in the final minute of double overtime.

The Cobbers are coming off their dramatic penalty kick shootout victory over Carleton in the championship game of the MIAC playoffs. CC needed to go to the seventh round of penalty kicks before Michelle Synhorst slotted the game-winner into the side of the net to give Concordia the tournament title and the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

The Cobbers set a program record for shutouts in a season in 2006. CC had 12 shutouts during the year, including a streak of five straight games and 694 minutes.

Concordia is led by a group of six seniors that turned the program from the bottom of the conference to one of the top programs in the region. Morgan Bain has set scoring records in the MIAC for goals and points in a single season and also holds the program record for most goals and most points in a single season and most goals in a career. She is currently four points shy of breaking the school record for points in a career.
