THIS YEAR’S MEETING: Concordia built a 3-0 lead in the opening 38 minutes and ended up hanging on for a 3-2 decision over St. Thomas in St. Paul in the conference opener for both schools. Miriam Lombardozzi scored in the ninth minute; Morgan Bain tallied in the 18th minute; and Kelly Ping scored in the 38th minute on a corner kick that went untouched into the net. The Tommies (1-4, 0-1) got on the scoreboard when sophomore Krystal Stautz scored in the 67th minute to cut the margin to 3-1. Senior Christine Williams pushed a shot past the charging goalie in the 86th minute to pull the Toms within one. Concordia outshot the Toms 18-12, including a 9-7 edge in corner kicks. Cobber freshman Britt Reiersgord played all 90 minutes in goal and stopped five shots. Tommie freshman Dana Vilar played all 90 minutes and made seven saves.
SERIES HISTORY: Concordia has won the last two meeting in the series with St. Thomas. Before that time the Tommies own edthe Cobbers. The Tommies had won 11 straight games in the series and had run off a string of 13 of the last 14. In fact, Concordia had not scored on St. Thomas from 2001-03. The scoreless minute streak for the Cobbers in the series stood at 281. Before that string, the last time Concordia had beaten St. Thomas was back in 1992 in Moorhead. The Cobbers bested the Tommies 4-2 in that game. The only other win in the series for Concordia came in St. Paul on September 8, 1990…the most goals scored by a team in a single game in the series is seven. St. Thomas blanked the Cobbers 7-0 in 1991…there have been 13 shutouts in the series – all posted by the Tommies.

-- Concordia is making their third straight MIAC tournament appearance. They are one of only two teams in the MIAC that have made every single tournament since the league started having postseason playoffs back in 2003.
-- Concordia has an 0-2-1 record in conference tournament games. The Cobbers advanced to the MIAC championship game after defeating St. Olaf on penalty kicks. For official statistical purposes, the game is entered in as a tie.
-- The Cobbers have the top two scorers in the MIAC this season. Senior forward Kelly Ping claimed the scoring title by overtaking teammate Morgan Bain in the final half of Saturday’s game against St. Ben’s. Bain tied Ping with a goal in the first half but then Ping countered with an assist in the final 45 minutes to take the scoring crown. Ping finished with 37 points while Bain had 36.
-- Concordia led the MIAC in scoring during the regular season. In 17 overall games, the Cobbers scored 47 goals, one more than Macalester did in 18 games. The 47 goals is the second highest total in program history. The record for goals in a season is 65 set by the 1993 Concordia squad.
-- Concordia is 11-0 in games when they score the first goal. When the opposing team scores the first goal of the game, the Cobbers are 3-3.
-- St. Thomas is one of the hottest teams in the MIAC entering the tournament. The Tommies have not lost in the last six games and are 5-0-1 during that period. After suffering a 3-0 loss against Macalester on Oct. 5, St. Thomas rattled off five straight conference wins to make the playoffs.
-- St. Thomas has posted six straight shutouts and has not been scored upon in the last 581 minutes.
-- The Tommies are making their second MIAC tournament appearance. St. Thomas lost 5-0 to Macalester in the semifinals of the 2003 MIAC playoffs.
-- Jessica Magnuson is the leading scorer for UST. She has six goals and four assists for 16 points. She has scored three goals in the past five games.
