GAMEDAY BASICS

GAME TIME: 3:00 pm
SERIES: Cobbers lead 8-3-1
SERIES STARTED: 1993
LAST YEAR: Cobbers won 2-0
LAST YEAR RECAP: Concordia scored a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes and held the Royals off the board for the full 90 minutes, winning 2-0 in a game played in Arden Hills. Morgan Bain scored both of the Cobber goals.Bain's first goal came courtesy of a through ball from Kelly Ping. Bain took the pass behind the Bethel defense and beat Royals goalie Jennie Pulford on the breakaway. Less than four minutes later, she found the net again, beating Pulford from the top of the 18-yard box. After the opening flurry, Concordia was constantly at the Bethel net, creating numerous scoring opportunities in both periods of play. The Cobbers hit two posts and had another bounce squarely off the crossbar as they peppered the Royals’ net with 33 shots. Bethel's best chance in the game came with under five minutes to play. Lisa Synhasvsky found herself all alone from just outside the six-yard box, but her initial shot was stopped by Cobber goalkeeper Ashley Liegakos and she fired the rebound wide right. Liegakos finished with three saves in the game, while Pulford stopped nine shots.
SERIES HISTORY: Concordia has won the last three games in the series. The last time Bethel beat the Cobbers was back in 2001. That was the second half of back-to-back victories for the Royals...Concordia won the first two games in the series and did not lose to Bethel until the sixth game, going 5-0-1...the most goals scored by a single team in a game in the series is five. The Cobbers blanked the Royals in the first meeting between the schools back in 1998...Concordia is 5-1-0 at home against Bethel.

GAMEDAY KICKOFF

(What you need to know about today’s CC-Bethel match-up)
-- Concordia enters today’s game on a program-record nine-game winning streak. The Cobbers lost their opening game of the year and have run the table since. During the nine-game win streak, Concordia has outscored its opponents 29-6.
-- The Cobbers have not allowed a goal in the past four games and have a shutout streak of 427:13. That is approaching the program record for consecutive minutes without allowing a goal. In 2003 Concordia went 492:55 without conceding a goal.
-- Concordia also has an extensive conference winning streak on the line. The Cobbers have reeled off 12 straight MIAC victories. The last time Concordia lost a league game was back on Sept. 29, 2004. That is the longest current winning streak in the conference.
-- Concordia junior wing midfielder Amy Ravenhorst is hotter than the grocery store parking lot in the middle of a 100-degree day. Ravenhorst has scored a goal in each of the team’s last three games. To top that impressive stat, every one of her goals has been the game-winning tally. She now has five goals on the year and four have been game-winners. She was named the MIAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday and promptly went out and scored the winner against Carleton on Wednesday. The Gameday staff knows the real secret behind her success – she learned everything she knows from her older brother Dan!
-- The 100-point watch for Cobber junior Morgan Bain is holding steady at four. Bain did not score a point against the Knights and has 96 career points entering today’s game. When she breaks the 100-point barrier, she will become only the third player in program history to eclipse the mark.
-- Despite being 0-5 in conference play, Bethel boasts the league’s top scorer. Junior forward Lauren Johnson has 13 goals and three assists for 29 points this season. She scored two goals and had two assists in the team’s 10-0 victory over North Central on Monday.
