Kelly Ping and Morgan Bain were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team.

 
Academic All-District Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Concordia teammates Kelly Ping and Morgan Bain were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team as selected by CoSIDA it was announced on Thursday. They are the first players in program history to earn Academic All-District honors.

Ping was selected to the Academic All-District Second Team while Bain was placed on the All-District Third Team. It is the first time in both players' careers that they have earned the prestigious honor.

The honor is given to athletes in the College Division of the Academic All-American award. The College Division includes players from Division II, III and NAIA from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana schools. Sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible to be nominated. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.20 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams.

Ping and Bain were two of 119 student-athletes nominated. They were also among a few from the MIAC to earn the award as only seven athletes from the conference were placed on the three All-District Teams.

Ping led the MIAC in scoring and assists in overall games during the regular season. She currently has 12 goals and 15 assists for 39 points. She was named the MIAC Player of the Week on Nov. 1. She is also currently ranked sixth in the nation in assists per game.

Bain led the MIAC in points and goals in conference games. She finished the regular season second on the team in scoring in all games and currently has 16 goals and six assists for 38 points. During the year she became the third player in program history to eclipse the 100-point barrier for a career. She now has 114 points for her 3-plus years at Concordia.
