MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/31/09)-- Concordia capped its unbeaten regular season by beating St. Ben's 3-0 in Fargo, N.D. on Saturday night. The win pushes the Cobbers' overall record to 16-0-1 and they finish the MIAC regular season at 10-0-1. It is the first time in program history they have gone undefeated in conference play.

The win was also a milestone for Concordia head coach Dan Weiler as he recorded his 100th career win with the Cobber women's team. Weiler is now 100-44-11 in his seven-plus years with Concordia.

The Cobbers seized control of the game from the very start. CC scored a pair of goals in the first 20 minutes and added a third in the 24th minute. Sarah Rounds got Concordia on the board in the ninth minute when she took a pass from Megan Rice at the top of the penalty area and cranked a shot towards the goal. Her shot deflected off of a Blazer defender and caromed past CSB goalie Shannon Strohm.

Concordia would add to the lead at 18:52 when Abby Habein finished off a crossing play from Rice and Mikenna Maroney. For Megan Johnson it was her second assist of the game and seventh of the season.

The score would stay at 2-0 for less than two minutes when MIAC leading scorer Sam Johnson notched her 20th goal of the season. Johnson was sent behind the St. Ben's defense on a pass from Rounds and Johnson buried the ball past Strohm who was left with no chance against the top sniper in the conference.

From there the game turned into a game played in the middle of the field with both teams trying to get more chances.

The best scoring opportunity for St. Ben's (10-7-1/6-5-0 MIAC) came in the second half when a shot by Jess Pellegrene hit the post and then came right back to CC keeper Ali Nelson who was lying on the ground after trying to make the save on the initial shot.

For the game Concordia outshot CSB 16-7 in total shots and 8-3 in shots on goal. Nelson finished with three saves in the game to earn her ninth shutout of the season. Strohm stopped five shots in goal for St. Ben's

Concordia will now start postseason play when they host Carleton in the MIAC semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.
