ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/23/09)-- For the fourth straight game No.18-ranked Concordia did not allow a goal and came away with a victory. The Cobbers downed St. Kate's 1-0 in overtime on Wednesday to win their seventh straight game to start the 2009 season. The 7-0 start is a program record for most consecutive wins to begin a season. The 1999 Cobbers held the record when they went 6-0.

Concordia is now 3-0 in conference play and has not allowed a goal in their three MIAC games. Overall the Cobbers have not conceded a goal in the past 432:13. It is the third longest shutout streak in program history. Concordia had a stretch of 444 minutes in 2006 and then had a streak of 493:54 that same season.

The Cobbers carried the offensive play throughout the game as St. Kate's (3-3-1/0-2-0 MIAC) was content to get all players behind the ball and settle into a defensive formation. Concordia ended up outshooting the Wildcats 18-6 in the game in overall shots and 10-4 in shots on goal.

The Cobbers failed to score in the opening 90 minutes of the game. They had several chances but anytime they got close, St. Kate's goalie Bridget Berry was able to stop the shot or end the chance before it got close.

That all changed in the third minute of overtime when Sue Obermiller was able to get behind the St. Kate's defense on a passing sequence from Killashandra Link and Kelsey Swagger. Obermiller then finished off her fourth goal of the season to give the Cobbers the win in sudden death overtime. It was Obermiller's third game-winning goal in the last four games and fourth overall game-winning goal of the season. For Swagger, she has now picked up an assist on the game-winning goal in two straight games.

Concordia goalie Ali Nelson made four saves to pick up her sixth win of the season and fourth straight shutout. She lowered her season goals against average 0.33. Berry stopped nine shots for the Wildcats.

The Cobbers will return home to host St. Olaf on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m.
