Gameday Game Recap

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (10/21/08)-- In the hometown of the Blues Brothers band Concordia was the one left singing the blues as they dropped a 1-0 decision to Augustana (Ill.) in Rock Island, Ill. on Tuesday. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Cobbers and knocks their overall season record to 10-3-3. The Vikings, who were ranked in the top 10 of the region last week, improve to 12-3-0 on the season.

The Concordia offense was never able to get on track and only mustered four total shots the entire 90 minutes. CC had three shots on goal against Augustana in the game.

The game was decided in the final six minutes of the first half. With the Vikings holding a decided edge in possession in the first 45 minutes, the CC defense was able to keep a clean sheet and was trying to get to the break with a scoreless draw. Unfortunately Augustana was able to score the game-winning goal in the 40th minute. Amanda Murato netted her first goal of the season at 39:01 to give the Vikings the all-important first goal of the game.

The Cobbers stepped up the offense in the second half but were unable to get by the Viking defense and adjust to the fast field turf. The best chance for CC came from midfielder Abby Habein. Habein got on the end of a free kick from defender Chelsee McLaughlan in the 79th minute. Her shot had the goalie beat but went just wide of the post.

Concordia goalie Britt Reiersgord made six saves in the game, while Viking keeper Kayla Radloff only had to stop three shots to earn the shutout.

CC will finish off the regular season by playing a pair of conference games. Concordia will play at Bethel on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. and the square off against rival St. Ben's in St. Joseph, Minn. on Saturday, Nov. 1 at noon.
