Gameday Game Recap

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/01/08)-- Concordia was never able to get their offense on track, conceded a pair of second-half goals and lost 2-0 at St. Olaf on Wednesday. The defeat snaps the Cobbers' 10-game unbeaten streak to start the season. CC is now 7-1-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the MIAC. The Oles move to 5-4-1 and 2-2-1 in conference play.

The game was supposed to be a set-up for the big regional showdown on Saturday between No.6-ranked St. Thomas and the No.7-ranked Cobbers. Unfortunately Concordia was unable to put St. Olaf away in the first half after outshooting the Oles 8-3 in the opening 45 minutes and paid the price in the second half. CC missed some quality chances in the first half that would have given them the momentum they needed.

St. Olaf took advantage of being tied at 0-0 with Concordia at halftime when they started the second 45 minutes by knocking home a goal at the 48:09 mark. Unlike Saturday when CC was able to recover from a 1-0 deficit against St. Mary's, the Oles never allowed Concordia back in the game and added to the lead in the 73rd minute when Deanne Schmidt scored her fourth goal of the year.

St. Olaf then sat back and held off the Cobber offense for the final 17 minutes to claim the upset victory.

For the game, Concordia outshot St. Olaf 13-9. Cobber goalie Britt Reiersgord made three saves in the game, while Ole goalie Elizabeth Huggins stopped eight shots to earn the shutout.

Concordia will host conference leading St. Thomas on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m.
