Gameday Game Recap

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/076/08)-- Playing their second game in less than 15 hours, Concordia shook off an early-morning starting time and shutout UW-Oshkosh 1-0 at home on Sunday. The win keeps the Cobbers unbeaten in 2008 as they move to 3-0-1. It is also the third straight win for CC who opened the season with a 1-1 overtime tie against 2007 NCAA playoff participant Wartburg (Iowa).

Concordia controlled the play for almost the entire 90 minutes. The Cobbers were able keep the ball moving and set up chances from inside Oshkosh's half of the field. CC failed to capitalize on their possession as their play got bogged down around the Titan penalty area. In the first half, Concordia had a 7-2 advantage in total shots and a 2-0 edge in shots on goal.

The Cobbers finally broke onto the scoreboard in the 70th minute when Abby Habein punched home a free kick from 25 yards out on the left side of the goal. CC forward Sam Johnson set up the goal by being fouled just outside the Oshkosh penalty area. Habein then stepped up and hit the direct kick into the far side of the net past the Titan wall and by goalie Brittany Walder who was screened on the play. Habein's goal at 69:19 was her second of the season.

For the final 20 minutes of play Oshkosh came up with only one shot on goal that was turned aside by CC goalie Britt Reiersgord. Reiersgord finished the game with just the one save.

For the entire 90 minutes, CC outshot Oshkosh 15-5 in total shots and 4-1 in shots on goal as both teams had a hard time keeping the ball on the frame of the goal. Walder stopped three shots in goal for the Titans.

Concordia will now turn their attention to defending their MIAC regular season title when they host Augsburg in the conference opener for both teams on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m.
