Gameday Game Recap

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (8/30/08)-- It was a shame that it was the first game of the season. In a game that featured two squads that made the 2007 NCAA tournament, neither team could find a way to punch home a winner and the score ended in a 1-1 deadlock in two overtimes on Saturday in St. Joseph, Minn.

The Cobbers had to rally in the second half after the Knights opened the scoring in the first half with a goal at the 38:02 mark. The equalizer came from an unlikely hero as sophomore Laura Frazier scored only her second collegiate goal to pull CC level at 1-1 with 38:16 left to play in regulation. Abby Habein was given the assist on the play. Habein picks up where she left off last season when she was second on the team in assists.

Concordia steadily mounted an offensive attack after taking a full 45 minutes to get their game legs under themselves. Down 1-0, Concordia had five shots in the second half as opposed to only two in the opening period of the season. CC really found its rhythm in the overtime periods and had several great chances to win the game in the extra periods. The Cobbers missed a pair of breakaways and had to settle for the 1-1 draw.

Cobber goalie Britt Reiersgord made six saves to start her senior season. Wartburg goalie Rachel Coleman stopped five shots but none was bigger than her breakaway save in overtime.

For the game, the Knights outshot CC 14-10. Both teams had five corner kicks in the contest.
