Complete MIAC All-Conference Awards List

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/17/08)-- Three sophomore Concordia players earned MIAC All-Conference postseason honors it was announced by the league office on Monday. Sam Johnson (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) and Abby Habein (Billings, Mont./Billings Senior HS) were named to the MIAC All-Conference First Team while Susan Obermiller (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) earned MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. Senior goalie Becky Shepherd (Burnsville, Minn.) was placed on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

It is the second consecutive year for Johnson to earn MIAC postseason honors.

The trio of All-MIAC players helped the Cobbers earn a spot in the MIAC postseason for the sixth straight season. Concordia upset No.1-seeded St. Thomas in the conference finals before falling in the MIAC championship game. CC finished the year with a 12-5-3 overall record and a 6-3-2 mark in league play. The 12 overall wins represent the sixth straight year Concordia has won at least 10 games in a season.

Johnson led the team in scoring despite missing three games with a separated shoulder. She finished the year with nine goals and two assists for 20 points. In conference action she had four goals and one assist for nine points. She finished tied for sixth in goals in conference games and was tied for 10th in total points. Johnson was also tied for third in game-winning goals (2) during the year.

Johnson was named the MIAC Player of the Week on Sept. 24.

Habein led the team in assists and was one of the key factors behind CC making a successful push to the playoffs. She had three goals and nine assists for 15 points in total games and two goals and three assists for seven points in the MIAC. She was sixth in the league in shots (29) and seventh in shots per game (2.64).

At one point during the last part of the season Habein scored at least three points in three of four games.

Obermiller was third on the team in the scoring. She had four goals and five assists for 13 points in the team's 20 games. In conference play she had one goal and four assists for six points. She was tied for second in assists in MIAC play (4) and tied for eighth in shots (26).
