Game Recap:

ARDEN HILS, Minn. (10/07/06)-- The offense rolled, the defense put up another shutout and in the end, Concordia collected its sixth victory in conference play to remain atop the conference standings.

The Cobbers used a pair of goals from senior midfielder Amy Ravenhorst to pull away from a vastly improved Bethel team to record a 3-0 victory.

The shutout stretches Concordia's conference streak to 650 minutes without conceding a goal. That is a program record as the Cobbers' continue to be the only team in the league that has not allowed a goal. It was also the ninth shutout in the teams' first 12 games of the season. The record for shutouts in a single season is 10 set back in 2003.

Overall, Concordia is 9-2-1 on the year and is the first team in the MIAC to reach the nine-win plateau.

The Cobber defense held a hard-nosed Royal offense scoreless in the opening minutes of the game which allowed CC to take a 1-0 lead at the 10:14 mark when Ravenhorst score the first of her two goals. The opening lead was important since, Bethel used 1-0 leads to tie defending MIAC champion Macalester and extend St. Olaf into overtime.

CC took a 1-0 lead into the break after outshooting the Royals 15-7 in the opening 45 minutes.

The game was decided in the 60th minute when Ravenhorst got on the end of a Suzy Grabko cross to push the CC lead to 2-0.

Betsy Olesen provided the final score of the game when she scored on a long range shot that went over the Bethel goalie from over 40 yards out from goal.

For the game, Concordia outshot Bethel 28-10 overall and held a 11-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Cobber goalie Britt Reiersgord made a conference-high eight saves in the game to record her eighth shutout of the year, which ties her own school record for shutouts in a single season. She also had eight blankings last year and that tied teammate Ashley Liegakos for the record.

Reiersgord now has 16 shutouts for her career, which ties Amy Gentz' mark for most shutouts in a career.

Concordia will now turn their attention to the toughest week of conference play. The Cobbers will host 2005 playoff participant Augsburg on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. and then face perennial league winner Macalester on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 2:30 p.m. in St. Paul.
