Game Scoring: Goals: 1. 69:05 CC Morgan Bain (6) from M. Lombardozzi Game Rewind: Match Stats: Final Stats vs. Carleton - now online! Game Recap: NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/04/06)-- Concordia used a reoccurring formula to pick up another key MIAC road victory. The Cobbers' brick wall defense held another conference foe scoreless and senior forward Morgan Bain netted another game-winning goal in the second half to give Concordia a 1-0 victory over Carleton in Northfield on Wednesday. The win keeps the Cobbers atop the MIAC. Concordia is now 5-0-1 in league play for a total of 11 points. They are currently two points clear of second-place Augsburg who defeated St. Ben's 1-0 on Wednesday. The Cobbers also push their overall mark to 8-2-1 on the season. The shutout for CC's tight-fisted defense sets a new school record. Concordia has now put together a streak of 560 minutes in conference play without allowing a goal. That stretch breaks the old mark of 519 minutes set last season. The six straight league shutouts also breaks last year's mark of five straight. Overall, it is the fourth straight shutout - and eighth in the team's first 11 games. Concordia has yet to concede a goal in conference play this year and has only allowed three goals the entire season. They lowered their season goals against average to a miniscule 0.26. They are currently ranked ninth in the nation in goals against average and 14th in shutout percentage. Cobber goalie Britt Reiersgord had to make only three saves in the game but came up with a crucial diving stop in the final minute to preserve the shutout. Reiersgord has now posted seven shutouts in her ten games this season and lowered her goals against average to 0.20. She is ranked 9th in nation in goals against average and ninth in save percentage. Offensively, Concordia created chances in the midfield and allowed their forwards to break free for goal-scoring chances. The biggest recipient of the midfield creativity was Bain who was sent free on three breakaways in the game. Carleton goalie Yusi He stopped the first two breakaways, but like the Twins' pitching staff trying to stop Oakland slugger Frank Thomas from hitting a home run, eventually the inevitable happened - and Bain beat He on the final 1-on-1 opportunity. For the game, the Cobbers outshot Carleton 12-4. He finished with eight saves in the game as Concordia posted nine shots on net. Of the four Knight shots, three found the target and were stopped by Reiersgord. Concordia will finish their three-game road trip when they play at Bethel on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. |
