Game Rewind:

Match Stats: Final Stats vs. Gustavus

Key Point of the Game: Midway throught the first half Concordia record-breaking scoring threat Morgan Bain was able to beat the Gustie defense and get a clear shot on the goal but the ball sailed wide of the net. That shot would become a reoccuring theme for the Cobbers for the entire 110 minutes.

The Quote: "That's the way soccer is sometimes. You can do many things right and get in the right spot but the ball won't go in." Cobber head coach Dan Weiler.
The Leader: Cobber goalie Britt Reiersgord made four saves on the day and ran her shutout streak to four games and 335 minutes. In her five games in goal this season, she has recorded four shutouts and is unbeaten at 4-0-1

Game Recap:

ST. PETER, Minn. (09/16/06)-- Concordia did everything they needed to do on Saturday against Gustavus except for one crucial exception. They forgot to score.

The regionally-ranked Cobbers put up 26 shots and accounted for 11 shots on net but were never able to get the ball past Gustie goalie Julie Mahre.

The tie moves Concordia's overall record to 4-1-1 and they are now 1-0-1 in conference play. Gustavus has their record go to 2-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the MIAC. The tie continues Concordia's streak of four straight games without having lost to the Gusties.

Concordia also extends one other streak as they have now gone 335 minutes without allowing a goal. The Cobbers have strung together three consecutive shutouts and have blanked their opponents in four of the last five games.

The Cobbers opened the game like they would put away the contest early - controlling the play and getting several good looks on goal. Midway though the period Morgan Bain had a golden opportunity when she beat the Gustavus defense and went in on goal all alone. However, her shot sailed wide and would soon become a reoccurring theme throughout the entire afternoon.

In the first half, Concordia held an 11-6 edge in shots. They widened that margin in the second period by outshooting the Gusties 9-2. Perhaps the best chance of the game came when senior midfielder Amy Ravenhorst found herself open at the six-yard box but her header attempt sailed over the net.

In the first overtime, Concordia dominated by holding a 5-0 advantage in shots. Gustavus' best chance of the game came with minutes to play in the second overtime when Rebecca Hagen fired a hard shot from outside the penalty area but Cobber keeper Britt Reiersgord was able to get a hand on and turn off the crossbar.

Reiersgord finished the game with four saves, while Mahre had 11 for the Gusties.

Concordia will finish off their weekend by playing at UW-Eau Claire on Sunday at noon. The Blugolds are currently ranked No.6 in the country and are the top raetd team in the Central Region.
