Game Rewind:

Match Stats: Final Stats vs. Neb. Wesleyan

Key Point of the Game: After dominating the first half against Nebraska Wesleyan and taking a 1-0 lead into the break, Concordia watched as the Prairie Wolves equalized just four minutes into the second half and turned the game into a back-and-forth affair.

The Quote: "We lost our focus and allowed a good team to stay with us and eventually tie the game in the second half. Hoepfully we will learn a lesson from this." Cobber head coach Dan Weiler on the Cobbers' allowing the game-tying goal just four minutes into the second half.
The Leaders: Concordia's forward tandem of Morgan Bain and Rachel Lewis combined to score both of the Cobbers' goals. Lewis scored her first goal of the year to give Concordia a 1-0 lead at the 10-minute mark, and Bain finished off the game with a goal in the first overtime period.

Game Recap:

ST. PETER, Minn. (09/09/06)-- Concordia went to their "old reliable" in overtime against Nebraska Wesleyan and the plan paid dividends. The Cobbers found scoring sensation Morgan Bain alone in front of goal and Bain did what she does best - score goals - and ended the game with her second goal of the season at the five-minute mark in the first overtime period.

Concordia's 2-1 win over the Prairie Wolves pushes their season record to 2-1, while Nebraska Wesleyan falls for the second time in three games in overtime and drops to 1-2 on the year.

The game seemed to be in complete control for Concordia. After dominating the first half and taking a 1-0 lead into the break, the Cobbers seemed poised to continue their early-season progression. That all came to a screeching halt when Nebraska Wesleyan's Stephanie Anderson scored the game-tying goal just five minutes into the second half.

What resulted was 40 minutes of back-and-forth soccer with each team having chances to score.

Concordia finally broke free and won the game five minutes into overtime when a penalty area scramble resulted in several players trying to win head balls in the air. The ball bounced perfectly to Bain, who snapped up the loose ball and buried the game-winner.

The goal is Bain's second game-winning goal in as many games. It is also her 52nd goal of her collegiate career and moves her overall point total to 118, only 20 points shy of breaking the school's all-time scoring mark.

Junior Rachel Lewis put the Cobbers on the board in the first half when she hit a shot from 18 yards out that hit the crossbar, the goal post and then spun into the net. The goal was Lewis' first of the season.

Concordia goalie Britt Reiersgord made three saves to pick up the win. She is now 2-0 on the season. Nebraska Wesleyan goalie Vicki Koke made 14 saves in the losing effort.

The Cobbers held a decisive 16-4 edge in shots on goal and had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Concordia will play Grinnell College (Iowa) in the final game of the Gustavus Tournament. The Pioneers beat host Gustavus 1-0 on Saturday and are unbeaten on the yea at 2-0-1.
