Game Rewind:

Match Stats: Final Stats vs. Carthage (Wis.)

Key Point of the Game: Concordia broke on the board less than four minutes into the game when Morgan Bain finished off a cross from Amy Ravenhorst. The goal helped Concordia play from in front and broke a 225-minute scoreless streak for the Cobbers that dated back to the semifinal game in the MIAC Tournament last season

The Quote: "We finally got accustomed to the surface and played with confidence. Our back line did a good job of keeping their attack on the perimeter and not allowing any quality chances." Cobber head coach Dan Weiler.
The Leader: Concordia senior Morgan Bain scored her first goal of the season at the 3:46 mark and it turned out to be the game-winner. The goal is the 51st of her collegiate career. She now has 116 career points and needs 22 points to break the school's record for most career points.

Game Recap:

REDLANDS, Calif. (09/03/06)-- It's hard to keep a good man down; it's even harder to keep a good player and a good team down for very long. That was the case in Concordia's second game of the season as they broke out of their scoreless drought and beat Carthage (Wis.) 1-0 in the second game of the University of Redlands (Calif.) Tournament.

The Cobbers entered the game having not scored in the past 221 minutes of play, in a streak that dated back to midway through their MIAC semifinal tournament game against St. Thomas and continued through the first game of the 2006 season against No. 25 UC-Santa Cruz. That streak was quickly put to rest against the Lady Reds as Cobber goal-scorer extraordinaire Morgan Bain notched her first goal of they year at 3:46. For Bain it was her 51st goal of her career. She also has 116 career points and is now only 22 points away from breaking the school's all-time scoring mark.

Concordia's lone goal was the result of stellar wing play from senior Amy Ravenhorst. Ravenhorst broke free down the sideline and served the ball into the penalty area, where it flew over a pack of players and onto the foot of Bain who finished with precision.

The final 86:00 of the game was filled with the Cobber defense not allowing Carthage to get any quality chances from in close and the Lady Reds trying to beat Concordia goalie Britt Reiersgord from well beyond the penalty area.

In the end, Carthage held a 16-11 edge in overall shots and a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal but it was the Cobbers who had the more dangerous attacks.

Bain and Rachel Lewis led the Concordia offense with two shots each. Both of their attempts were on net as well.

Reiersgord finished the game with 10 saves to earn her first win of the year. Carthage goalie Lindsey Bollman made five saves in the losing effort.

Concordia will return to play next weekend when they travel to St. Peter, Minn. to play in the Gustavus Tournament. The Cobbers will play regional rival Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, Sept. 9 and then turn around and play Grinnell (Iowa) on Sunday, Sept. 10. Both games are schedule to start at 1 p.m.
