Match Stats vs. St. Olaf - Now Online! Photo Gallery from Match - Now Online! MOORHEAD, Minn.-- Concordia picked a bad time to record their first two-match losing streak of the season. The Cobbers lost their regular season finale to St. Ben's last Wednesday and in their first round playoff match with #5 seed St. Olaf, they were swept 3-0 (30-22, 30-25, 33-31) and eliminated from the playoffs. It is the first time that Concordia has lost in the conference tournament since 2002, and the first time a #5 seed has beaten a #4 seed in the five-year history of the MIAC Tournament. The Cobbers finish their season 21-4, while the Oles improve to 14-11. St. Olaf's high level of energy ignited their attack from the first point of the match. The Oles bolted to a 10-3 lead in game and never looked back. Concordia was able to claw back and get to within one at 20-19 but then the Oles won nine of the next 11 points to close out the opener 30-22. The second game went back and forth until St. Olaf was clinging to a one-point lead at 18-17. The Oles went on a 5-2 run and steadily pulled away to win 30-25. The third game was all Concordia at the beginning as the Cobbers tried to rally and get back in the match. Concordia mounted a 21-10 lead before the roof fell in. St. Olaf whittled the margin to 21-15 and then again to 23-22. Reeling from having lost 12 of the last 14 points, Concordia traded points with the Oles until 31-31 when St. Olaf put down the final two points of the match to come away with the sweep. Andrea Otteman was the story of the match for St. Olaf. The junior finished the game with a match-high 18 kills and a match-high 22 digs. She led the Oles with her presence at the net in the early part of the match and her defensive ability late in the sweep. Four different St. Olaf players had double-digit kill totals and junior setter Audrey Volstad finished with a match-high 54 assists. Concordia was led by Becca Shane. Shane had 15 kills in 43 total attacking chances. Lindsay Sipma was the only other Cobber player to have at least 10 kills. She finished with 10 kills and had an attacking percentage of .455. Michelle Honek added a team-high 14 digs and five kills, and freshman Alyssa Dahl had 31 assists in the losing effort. |
