Match Stats vs. Gustavus - Now Online! MOORHEAD, Minn.-- The Concordia 1,000-kill club has one more member after Friday night. Cobber junior All-American Becca Shane posted a team-high 14 kills and helped Concordia roll over Gustavus 3-0 (30-23, 30-24, 30-24). Shane now has 267 kills on the season and 1,003 for her career. She is the ninth player in program history to achieve the milestone. She is now two behind Stacy Davis for the eighth position and 32 behind last year's standout Amy Fitzner. Laura Reitmeier is the all-time kill leader in Concordia history. She posted 1,538 kills from 1995-98. The victory extends Concordia's current winning streak to nine matches and pushes them to within one win of securing their fifth consecutive MIAC playoff berth. The Cobbers are now 19-2 on the season and with a win over St. Olaf on Saturday, could set a program record for consecutive 20-win seasons. Concordia has amassed three straight 20-victory campaigns. The Cobbers are now 6-2 in conference play and move into a tie for third place with St. Ben's. Gustavus sees their playoff hopes dwindle as they fall to 3-6 in conference play and 12-11 overall. They are currently in eighth place, two spots of the sixth, and final, spot for the conference tournament. The Cobbers seized control of the match 18 points into the first game. With Concordia leading 11-7, a kill from Shane sent Concordia on a 12-5 run and they would never look back. They won the opener 30-24, and then used a 7-0 run with the lead at 18-16 to claim the second game. In the third game, Concordia bolted to a 10-3 lead and then extended the margin to 23-8 before Gustavus rallied and closed the gap to within four at 26-22. The Cobbers turned up the defensive pressure and finished off the game, and the match, with a 4-2 run. Shane had six blocks to go along with her 14 kills in the match. She also had five digs and an uncharacteristic three assists. Lindsay Sipma was the only other Concordia player to record more than ten kills. She finished the match with 11 kills and had an unbelievable attacking percentage of .579, committing only one error in 19 attack attempts. Danielle Norby and Mackenzie Close each added seven kills. The setting duo of Alyssa Dahl and Jill Hance combined for 38 assists. Dahl had a team-high 20 and Hance followed with 18. Michelle Honek and Anna Walden each had a match-high 16 digs. Honek also had nine kills. Becca Thompson led all players with 18 kills for Gustavus. The Gusties' main threat at the net also added two blocks and had an attacking percentage of .316. Bridget Burtzel chipped in 24 assists in the losing effort. As a team Concordia hit .305 and limited Gustavus to an attack percentage of .189. The Cobbers came up with seven team blocks in the game. Concordia will try and secure a spot in the conference playoffs when they host St. Olaf on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 3:00pm. |
